Google Meet Google Meet is the video conferencing application from Google which G-Suite users can utilize to hold secure, real-time meetings. The app has experienced a massive growth over the last few weeks as a number of institutions and organizations have been highly dependent on it for their daily business. All over the world, people use the app to hold online meetings with colleagues and to provide education to students through online classes.
However, when holding large gatherings it is a common practice to silence other participants in the presence of the speaker. Particularly for classes online, instructors tend to muffle their students in order to prevent unnecessary interruptions. However, even when students are on muted, you’d like them to be able speak freely without interrupting the class or meeting by muting them.
Enter – ‘Nod – Reactions for Google Meet’. It’s a Chrome extension. When it is added into the Chrome browser, it permits Google Meet users to send reactions emojis to a meeting by simply clicking. This means that people are able to avoid talking until absolutely necessary but still be able to communicate.
Interesting Facts: The extension was created due to a need arising because of the pandemic. It was developed by a person for the team members, it’s gained more than a million users within a matter of weeks.
Visit the Chrome Store to purchase ‘ Nod- Reactions for Google Meet‘ for your browser. After that, click “Add to Chrome’ to install it.
A confirmation message will be displayed in your computer screen. Click on the ‘Add extension to confirm the installation.
The extension will be downloaded and an icon of the extension should be displayed on the right-hand side of the address bar.
If you were in a Google Meet meeting was already taking place, you’ll have to refresh the page and join the meeting again. If you do not, when the new meeting your reaction bar should show in the upper left edge of your screen.
The users can use the “Hand Raised’ emoji in order to let the world know they are asking questions or a response to an emoji.
To send an emoji that reacts to your message, such as thumbs Up”, “Well Done”, ‘Wow or ‘LOL’ or even ‘Hmmm?’, to show your emotion, simply hover your cursor over the thumbs Up icon to increase the options. Then select the emoji that you wish to send.
The responses appear in the lower left corner of the display for each of participants in the meeting.
NOTE: The users who have the extension installed in their browsers is the sole ones to see or send the reaction emojis displayed on their screens. Users can choose to independently install the extension on their browsers, or administrators can extend the feature to all domains via the G-Suite admin console.
The extension also has added options for customization recently, meaning that you can alter the skin color of the Emoji. Select the ‘Setting’ icon, then select the color you want from the choices that are available.
You can also enable notifications so that those who are presenting something but do not display a video on will still be notified when they get a ‘hand raised’ response from someone. To enable notifications, simply click on the icon ‘Settings’, and then select the ‘Turn On Notifications’.
A pop-up window will be displayed in your browser asking for confirmation before allowing notification from Nod. Click ‘Allow’ to confirm.
Install the ‘Nod – Reactions to Google Meet’ browser extension to improve the experience of meetings within Google Meet. Once all participants are using the extensions, those who are silent can freely express their opinions and feelings without interrupting the speakers.
